4 Tips for Making Healthy Breakfast Smoothies

Follow These Tips to Make Healthy Breakfast Smoothies

Smoothies can be a great way to get your fruits and veggies first thing in the morning — but some shakes and smoothies can leave you feeling hungry again soon after. For example, a carb-heavy smoothie made with only fruits won’t fill you up like a solid breakfast.

So how can you make a smoothie that will keep you feeling full longer and avoid the dreaded midmorning sugar crash? The trick is to choose ingredients with a healthy balance of carbs, fats, protein and fiber.

1. Skip the Added Sugars — Use Whole Fruits Instead

Store-bought breakfast shakes and smoothies usually have a lot of added sugar. Check the label on store-bought shakes and ask about the nutrition info when ordering from a restaurant or coffee shop. Or make your breakfast shakes at home, so you know all the ingredients.

And beware of so-called “natural” or “healthy” added sugars, like honey, raw sugar, maple syrup or agave syrup. These are still added sugars that increase the calories in a smoothie without adding any other nutrients — so it’s best to skip them or use only a very small amount.

If you like a sweet breakfast, use whole fruits as a sweetener instead! Fresh or frozen whole fruits are a great way to add some sweetness to your shake or smoothie — but unlike added sugars, whole fruits also give you a healthy dose of vitamins and fiber. Berries and bananas are both good options to sweeten your drink.

2. Add a Healthy Fat

Fat is another important part of a balanced meal, and it can help make your smoothie more satisfying. Avocados and nuts are quick, easy ways to add some healthy unsaturated fats to your breakfast shake. Some people also like adding full-fat yogurt or coconut milk to up the fat content in their smoothies. Flaxseed oil is another good option, since it’s high in healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

3. Go for High Fiber

If you want to feel full for hours after breakfast, fiber is the way to go! Leafy greens, cucumber, avocado and whole fruits are all good ways to increase the fiber in your smoothie. Or you can throw in some flax seeds or chia seeds — these can help thicken your shake and are high in healthy fiber.

4. Pump Up the Protein

No meal is complete without some protein — even a breakfast smoothie. Protein helps you feel full longer and provides the long-lasting energy you need to get through your day.

Yogurt is a popular way to get some protein in your breakfast drink. If you don’t eat dairy, soy or other plant-based yogurts can work, too. Or try throwing some peanut, almond or cashew butter in the blender — nuts are another healthy protein source.  Source:Thehealthyfeed

7 Dangerous brain damaging habits to stop immediately

The brain is responsible for all body functions, so keeping it healthy and functioning at optimal level is a must.

Here are 7 common practices to help your brain work at its optimum performance.

1. Boredom

Neuroplasticity is the ability to think differently, retain memories, and make new connections. Lack of intellectual stimulation leads to a decline in brain`s effectiveness, just like with any other organ.

2. No Breakfast

Skipping breakfast in the morning will make you sluggish, but also your brain is revving up for another busy day. Lack of nutrition causes slow metabolism and the brain can permanently shut down some functions.

According to a Japanese study, people who tend to skip breakfast on a regular basis are at 36% higher risk of suffering a brain hemorrhage. On the other hands, brain`s function is significantly improved if properly nourished every morning.

“Without glucose our brain simply doesn’t operate as well. People have difficulty understanding new information, [they have a] problem with visual and spatial understanding, and they don’t remember things as well,” a professor of pediatrics at Duke University.

3. Cell Phones

Electromagnetic fields emit radiation, which is extremely harmful for humans. If nothing more, sleeping next to a cell phone is distracting!

According to a study done by Swedish researchers, radiation from a cell phone causes confusion, headaches, and is also associated with cancers, including brain tumors. To minimize the risk, limit cell phone use and keep it away from you as often as possible.

4. Working Through Illness

When feeling sick, rest and eat properly because your immune system functions as full capacity in order to fight the infection.

5. Over-eating

Over-eating can cause excess weight, and often obesity as well. Often, people eat more than necessary and consume food that is not nutritive. Thus, the body remains hungry and we eat more. Foods that are poor in nutrients do not help the brain function at its best. Chronic obesity is associated with low brain volume and dementia.

6. Shyness

People should be social and talk to each other. Oral communication uses a different part of the brain than written, so you need to talk more to other people so you can exercise this part of the brain. Depression and anxiety, which are products of the brain, can be caused by lack of social interaction

7. Lack of Sleep

Getting regular and quality sleep is of utmost importance for the overall health, including brain health. While sleeping, the brain performs two important activities: storing memories and eliminating toxins. Sleep deprivation leads to plaque accumulation, changes in the memory, and increased risk of neurodegenerative disease.

Neem Leaves Are Virtually A Miraculous Living Pharmacy For The Brain, Blood, Skin, Liver, Kidneys.

Those having a skin problem like itchy scalp, acne, psoriasis or eczema are willing to try anything in ore to get rid of the pain and itchiness caused by the skin inflammation. Apart from coconut oil, neem oil is one of the most effective things you can use to alleviate the symptoms of such skin problems.

The neem tree is primarily found in South Asia and is key ingredient in Ayurvedic medicine.  Literally each part of the tree can be used to treat various health issues:
  •     Leaves:  They can be infused in tea to boost immunity or made into paste to treat skin diseases.
  •     Seeds:  Crushed, dried, or oil extracted to be used as tincture, ointment, or medicine.
  •     Bark and twigs:  Powdered to be used in traditional medicine or chewed for strengthening the teeth.
  •     Roots:  Powdered to be used as traditional medicines for treating a wide range of diseases.
  •     Flowers: Eaten as a vegetable.
  •     Fruits:  Eaten raw or cooked for purifying the blood.

Health Benefits Of Neem

Neem offers a wide plethora of health benefits and one of its most outstanding properties is its anti-cancer activity that kills off cancerous cells. As explained by Ayurvedic practitioners, consuming small amounts of neem on a daily basis helps control cancerous cells and prevents them from becoming destructive.

Due to its amazing medicinal properties, neem is virtually a living pharmacy! Its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and anticancer features make it effective in boosting immunity and treating an endless list of ailments. Here are some of its “anti” properties:

  •     Antifungal:  Prevents the growth of infections and fungi.
  •     Analgesic: It relieves various bodily pains.
  •     Anti-inflammatory:  Reduces both internal and external inflammation, swelling and tenderness.
  •     Antihistamine: Reduces allergic reactions.
  •     Antibacterial:  Destroys the proliferation of bacteria.
  •     Antimicrobial:  Destroys the growth of detrimental micro-organisms.
  •     Antiviral:  Inhibits the growth of viruses and development of diseases caused by viruses.

Taking these properties into account, it`s no wonder that neem helps treat so many health problems as long as used properly and correctly:

Digestive and brain health:  It boosts immunity, removes worms and parasites, heals ulcers, and improves digestion.  When the digestive health is strong, the brain functions optimally, too.

Blood health: It clears up fungal infections and yeast, detoxifies the blood, regulates both blood pressure and sugar levels, and improves blood flow.

Liver and kidney health: It protects against kidney disorders like kidney stones and infections as well as liver diseases like cirrhosis and hepatitis.

Skin health:  It relieves itchiness, redness, irritation, burns, and inflammation; lightens skin pigmentation; treats acne, dermatitis, and psoriasis.

Oral health:  It strengthens both teeth and gums and protects against periodontal diseases.

Hair health: It prevents breakage, hair loss, dryness, graying, and it promotes healthy hair.

Using Neem Products

As discussed earlier, virtually every part of the tree is used for multiple purposes. One of the most important uses is in skin care products, such as facial masks, lip balms, soaps, lotions, moisturizers, cleansers, toothpaste, hair conditioners, shampoo, repellents, and more.

Neen oil is obtained from the seeds and is packed with omega fatty acids and vitamin E, which makes it ideal for treating skin swelling, irritation, redness, and itchiness. It is great for topical application on skin breakouts and it can be used the same way you would an essential oil.

Ultimately, neem powder can be made into paste and used as hair mask, facial mask, toothpaste, and anything you like.

Health benefits of sex and love

Besides putting a spring in your step, romance can bring some positive health benefits.

Some scientific studies suggest that a loving relationship, physical touch and sex can bring health benefits such as lower blood pressure. Of course, no relationship can guarantee health and happiness, but cupid's arrow can send you some health boosts.

Sex is good for your heart

Want to get healthy and have fun at the same time? Anything that exercises your heart is good for you, including sex.

Sexual arousal sends the heart rate higher, and the number of beats per minute reaches its peak during orgasm. But as with most exercise, it depends how vigorously you do it. Some studies show that the average peak heart rate at orgasm is the same as during light exercise, such as walking upstairs. That's not enough to keep most people fit and healthy.

It's recommended adults do at least 150 minutes (two-and-a-half hours) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, such as cycling or fast walking, every week.

Unless you're lucky enough to have 150 minutes of orgasms a week, try cycling, brisk walking or dancing.

Embracing someone special can lower blood pressure, according to researchers.

Having heart disease doesn't have to hold you back in the bedroom. Experts advise that you can usually have sex as long as you can do the everyday activities that have the same impact on your heart without causing chest pain, such as walking up two flights of stairs.

A hug keeps tension away

Embracing someone special can lower blood pressure, according to researchers. In one experiment, couples who held each other's hands for 10 minutes followed by a 20-second hug had healthier reactions to subsequent stress, such as public speaking. Compared to couples who rested quietly without touching, the huggers had:

    lower heart rate
    lower blood pressure
    smaller heart rate increases.

So give your partner a hug - it may help to keep your blood pressure healthy.

Sex can be a stress buster

Workload too high? Hot and bothered after the morning commute to work? Sex could help you beat the stresses of 21st century living, according to a small study of 46 men and women.

Participants kept a diary of sexual activity, recording penetrative sex, non-penetrative sex and masturbation. In stress tests, including public speaking and doing mental arithmetic out loud, the people who had no sex at all had the highest stress levels. People who only had penetrative sex had the smallest rise in blood pressure (this shows that they coped better with stress).

Plenty of people find that intimacy or orgasm without penetration helps them feel relaxed, as does exercise or meditation. It doesn't have to be penetrative sex; it's whatever works for you.
